Growing a new limb

In June 2015, researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital took cells from a dead rat’s arm and grew a whole entire new arm in a lab then transplanted it back onto a living rat and it was able to circulate blood. This lab-grown limb in the future might lead scientists to be able to grow a human arm, by taking cells from it and then attaching it to the spot where they lost their limb.
I chose this article because it seemed interesting and the picture grabbed my attention instantly by seeing a rat’s arm with no skin. I came across this article by reading Discover Magazine. Also I learned a lot from this article now I know that people can grow a limb and then attach it to someone or something and it will circulate blood. I thought this was a great idea and in the future scientist could grow a human arm and then attach it to human and was also good idea to test on rats.

  1. Wow! This was really interesting. My favorite part was when they said that in the future, people who don't have arms can have them again. How many times did it take them to successfully take off the rats arm then put it back on.

  3. This is so cool Adam I didn't know that growing a limb back on an alive rat was even possible! My one question is how did they grow on a dead rat if it's body wasn't even functioning? I think that this discovery could lead to great things in the future. Like growing a limb on a human that was injured.
